What to do after a crash

In the event you have been involved in a crash caused by another we’ve provided some helpful tips on what you should do immediately after a crash to help you maximize your recovery from the at fault party and assist us in recovering the most from the insurance companies:

First, check yourself and your passengers for any injuries.  Call 911 and report the crash, it is important to document the event and make sure the at fault party is cited for any traffic violation.
If needed, call an ambulance and seek medical attention.  Make sure you obtain the at fault drivers license and insurance information.

If possible, take several photos of the scene of the accident as well as the vehicles involved.  Preserving the damage and scene in photos is very helpful to show any potential jury what happened and how significant the damages were.

If possible try to talk to any witnesses at the scene and get their information.  This could be important information if the at fault driver tries to deny liability for the crash.

If your vehicle is towed, make sure you have the wrecker information and where the vehicle was take.  Storage facilities will charge daily storage fees for housing the damaged vehicle and you don't want to incur excessive charges.

Contact your insurance carrier and report that you and your vehicle have been involved in a crash caused by another driver.  You want your insurer to send out an adjuster to evaluate the damage as soon as possible.

Follow up with your medical treatment.  If you are still in pain in the days after the crash, seek follow up treatment with a medical provider to document what is injured.  Insurance companies look for gaps in treatment to argue you were not hurt in a crash because "if you were hurt you would have seen a doctor or medical provider".  It is important to prevent the insurance company from using this argument.  Seek medical treatment if you are hurting.

If your medical provider orders certain treatments or therapy, make sure you go to those appointments.  We understand being injured by the negligence of someone else is a burden, but following your medical providers instructions is the best way to maximize the recovery from the liable party.

Contact The Leslie Firm as soon as possible for a free consultation to review your case details.  There are a number of steps we can take on your behalf to ensure maximum recovery for any injuries and damages.
